Olinguito Fun Fact: A fun fact about the olinguito is that it was the first carnivorous mammal species discovered in the Western Hemisphere in over 30 years! This small, nocturnal creature, which lives in the cloud forests of the Andes, was officially identified in 2013, even though it had been hiding in plain sight for a long time, often mistaken for its close relative, the olingo. Despite being classified as a carnivore, the olinguito primarily eats fruits, along with some insects and nectar.
