Red Panda Fun Fact: A fun fact about the red panda is that despite its name and appearance, it’s not closely related to the giant panda. In fact, red pandas are in their own unique family, called Ailuridae. Interestingly, they share some characteristics with both raccoons and bears, but genetic research shows they belong to a completely separate lineage. They were named “pandas” before the giant panda was discovered because they also eat bamboo, though their diet includes fruits, berries, and small mammals as well!

Red Panda Fun Fact: A fun fact about red pandas is that they use their fluffy tails as blankets to keep warm! Living in the cool, mountainous forests of the Himalayas and China, red pandas wrap their thick, bushy tails around themselves like a cozy scarf when they sleep to stay insulated against the cold.
