Muskox Fun Fact: A fun fact about the muskox is that it has an incredible way of surviving the harsh Arctic winters—its thick coat consists of two layers. The outer layer, called “guard hair,” is long and coarse, while the undercoat, known as “qiviut,” is incredibly soft, warm, and one of the finest natural fibers in the world. In fact, qiviut is said to be eight times warmer than sheep’s wool, helping muskoxen stay warm in temperatures as low as -40°C (-40°F)!
